Coast Guard joins Bahamas search for U.S. family’s missing plane near Andros

NEW · Tue. midday EDT

A PA-34 Piper five-seater (N212ML) carrying four South Florida family members lost contact with air traffic control about 13 miles west of Andros Island on Monday after departing Great Harbour Cay for a Miami-area airport. Bahamian authorities requested U.S. Coast Guard help; an HC-144 Ocean Sentry was launched. The family identified the occupants as Mario Lamar Sr., 80; Lili Lamar, 79; and grandchildren Sofi and Christian Sosa. Poor weather suspended the search for a time; agencies said efforts would resume when conditions allow.
